Growing Pains

The sun is absent, we inform the secretary at the principal’s office.

She looks up from below a unified brown curl of her whole hair, and says that it is winter, a season in which bears hibernate, as we have studied, and butterflies develop in cocoons, she thinks, so of course the sun remains absent.

Artist’s Note: This photo series stems from the many walks taken to capture the natural elements of New York City, and returning to find I’ve caught more than just photographs of the exterior world, but a glimpse inside a few people I hadn’t even come across. They are the result of paying attention, to both, the physical, and metaphorical, writing on the wall.

Rain

The man lies there listening as the rain falls on the roof. He lies there listening as it falls upon the windows. He lies there listening as it falls on the trees, on the mailbox and the cars parked in the road.
